The original B10(47N) congenic (B10.C-H7b/(47N)Sn, JR 0430) containing the H7 histocompatibility locus on distal mouse chromosome 9 was made in George Snell's colonies by crossing a BALB/c segment onto a C57BL/10Sn (B10) background.  The 47N congenic interval is relatively large, spanning ~25 centiMorgans (cM) and ~25 Mebabases (Mb).

For our work, we wanted to have the 47N congenic interval on a C57BL/6J (B6) background.  We performed the necessary backcrosses to make B6(47N).  During the backcross process, a number of recombinants occurred, and many were preserved and retained as separate lines to dissect the rejection phenotype of this region.  Lists of the retained subcongenic lines are provided below ordered by position along the chromosome in Mb in one list, and ordered by R#, also called strain number, strain nickname, strain abbreviation or recombination number, in a second list.  To view a map showing how the congenic intervals overlap, choose Excel or pdf.

Because B6 and B10 are relatively closely related, we initially planned to backcross only five generations and then type for those regions at which we determined B6 and B10 to be hereditarily different to confirm B6(47N) did not carry B10 congenic segments in those regions.  For information about regions where B6 and B10 are inherently different, click here.
