The Jackson Laboratory

SSP in Farmington, Connecticut

The Summer Student Program at our Farmington campus offers a unique residential experience with a range of activities across southern New England.

Housing

Students are housed locally in furnished apartments or college campus housing. These suite-style accommodations include shared bedrooms, a common kitchen and bathroom, and a separate living room space. Students also have 24/7 access to the JAX fitness center on the primary campus. Housing is located near the vibrant downtown area of West Hartford and several cultural centers.

Dining

Shared meals are provided as part of the residential experience. Communal dining and game nights are common, fostering a sense of community among students.

Residential Community & Activities

The residential experience for summer students at our Farmington campus offers a blend of Greater New England culture and the natural beauty of outdoor spaces near the JAX campus and across Connecticut. Students have many options for off-site activities in West Hartford and nearby areas, including Blue Back Square and the scenic Elizabeth Park.

In addition to a joint-campus gathering that takes place in June, residential staff and students work together to plan day trips tailored to students' interests.  The residence life team includes a JAX Residence Supervisor and Resident Advisor, who help support the development of a close-knit, scholarly community that both works and has fun together.

Past activities have included tubing on the Farmington River, attending a Yard Goats game (the local minor league baseball team), day hikes, kayaking and spending a day at a nearby beach, such as Misquamicut State Beach in Rhode Island.
